So, last Monday me and my boyfriend (He's called Jake) took an over night trip to York. We've visited the city a couple of times previously for days out and it's truly beautiful, it's one of the places in the UK that really steels my heart. Jake planned an over night trip for us as it always feels a bit rushed when we just go for the day, so it was nice to get to spend a bit more time there. Plus, I had two days off in a row (which is normally unheard of!) and his cousins band, Amber Run, were also playing there as part of there tour, so it seemed like the perfect excuse! We left mid afternoon on the Monday, stayed overnight in an amazing boutique hotel (which I'm blogging about soon) and then spent the Tuesday exploring the city. I had planned to get a few outfit photos done whilst I was there but it was so windy they all turned out awfully!
Whenever we go to York we try to eat somewhere different each time and avoid any chain restaurants that we can easily go to back here. York is so full of beautiful, quaint little eateries that picking where to go can be a little over whelming. The first time we visiting we ended up eating at a truly awful place out of pure hunger. So, if you go, do a little research of tripadvisor first so you don't end up picking somewhere bad cause you're just so damn hangry!
El Piano is a beautiful, quirky little restaurant down one of the quieter streets in York. It's not far from The Shambles and next door to the Mulberry shop (I had a perfect view of their window display from where they seated us)! El Piano is a completely vegan restaurant and they also cater for intolerance's such as gluten and soya, so it's perfect for me and Jake. It was so nice to eat somewhere where I could literally pick anything from the menu. I didn't have to ask about diary, I didn't have to ask what is vegetarian or why a seemingly meatfree meal didn't have the green 'V' next to it.

They have a small, select menu with the perfect amount of variety and I definitely had more to choose from than normal! The mains on the lunch menu are set out in a sort of tapas style, where you kind of create your own meal. You choose a main hot dish, a side and then a little salad. It was really nice to be able to mix and max, try different flavours and have an endless combination of meals to choose from! The mains were absolutely incredible and really filling (but not it that horrible way were you feel like to need to nap for 12 hours), I actually didn't finish mine and passed on some of my side to Jake. I went for the Mexican trio, Pestolitos and the Japan cup, Jake had the Fiery kababs, Tinas and Big E salsa. It was all truly delicious and there actually wasn't anything on the menu I didn't want to try. I had to tell the waitress I needed a few more minutes to pick...more than once! The staff were all really lovely too, very friendly and very contentive. I can't fault this beautiful little restaurant at all!

Oh, and I mustn't forget to talk about their rather impressive drinks menu that had something for all! Vegan beer, wine, shakes and then your usual soft drinks. Jake went for a chocolate style milkshake, made with coconut milk (they let you choose which vegan milk you want), and I was a little boring a got a cola. Honestly, it's a lovely little place and I'll definitely be visiting again next time I'm in the city. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. It was so yummy I reckon even the meat eaters will love it!
