Soothing a Breakout

I've always been fairly lucky with my skin, even through my teenage years. Although my skin is dry, gets dehydrated and I suffer from the pesky redness it's not often that I've had to battle with breakouts. Don't get me wrong though, I've have suffered with spots, breakouts and blemishes and I know how annoying they can be! One of the things I find difficult when I have a breakout is knowing what products to use. There is so many different products out there and it can be a bit overwhelming knowing what to try, what will work for you and what won't (There's only so much time you can spend standing in the Boots skincare isle!). When I'm looking for 'breakout' products I tend to steer towards those that aim to treat for a few different skin issues so I can get more use from the product and know that it won't go to waste. Plus, who doesn't love a good multi-use product?! I like to keep a good routine with my cleansers and toners, as I find my skin really benefits from this, so all the breakout products I use tend to be after cleansing 'treatments' instead...

The first product I use after cleansing and toning is The Body Shop Calming Aloe Toner. This is more of a moisturisng toner than my normal exfoliating one and is absolutely amazing for soothing red, sore skin or areas of skin. I use this whenever my skin is looking a little sore, lacking moisture or to tame the red, sore look you get with spots. It's a really great little product to have in your skincare stash as it comes in so handy.

Next up is the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo, a well known blogger favourite! There seems to be a lot of mixed opinions on whether this should be used as a moisturiser or serum, but I find it can be a little drying on the skin so I always use it as a serum with a good moisturiser. This is a great product to give your skin a little pick me up when it's looking a little dull, clogged up or you have a breakout. Sometimes I use it on the problem area, sometimes all over but my skin always looks brighter after using them at night time!

Origins Super Spot Remover is an amazing product disguised in a teeny weeny bottle! I apply this to any larger spots before I go to bed, after my toner but before my serum, and you literally need the smallest amount. I'm not sure what it does but it truly works some magic over night and spots are always much less red, smaller and less sore after a night with this on! I normally only need to use this for one night because it works so well.

Last but not least is my go to mask for whenever my skin is looking a bit drab, Origins Clear Improvement Mask. I use this whenever my skin is looking a bit dull and is in need of a pick me up. When you are suffering with a breakout it's always nice to relax with a facemak on and this really is the perfect one. My skin always looks a lot fresher and brighter after 10 minutes with this on.

What are you go to breakout products?

  1. This is perfect my skin doesn't ever not have breakouts it's so awful :( xxx

  2. I'm using the Effaclar Duo+ which works really well! I never tried the original version so I can't compare, but the Duo+ is a daily part of my skincare routine now :-) xx

  3. I use the effaclar duo as a serum too! I did use it all over my face initially but it really dried my skin out so now I use it as a spot treatment - lasts longer and I'm getting much better results!

  4. I really struggle with my skin and it really brings me down - nothing I try seems to help.
Alas something new to give a go! Looks pretty impressive aswell!
