Etsy Shop Update #1

Hello!

You may remember my first Etsy post, about a month ago, announcing that I'd opened up a little shop on Etsy called The Vintage Stitch Etc. Since finishing uni I've struggled to find a job and needed something to keep me busy, Etsy seemed perfect! I thought it would be nice to do a little Etsy series on my blog with updates about my shop, how it's going, new stock and little snippets of my ideas for future stock. I think it will be a great way to give all my readers a little insight in to other parts of my life and it will be something for me to look back on in months and years time to (hopefully) see how my little Etsy shopped had grown and changed. I'm not sure how often I'll be posting the updates, I'm guessing it'll depend on what happens with my shop. It might be once a week, it might be once a month and it might be constantly changing!

 So down to the update...

I've had my little shop open for about a month now and so far I've had no sales. However, I understand that it takes time and patience so I'm not too worried about that. There's also so many talented people on Etsy and so much lovely stock that making your first sale can be quite hard. I've had plenty of views and 'favourites' (if you're not too sure about Etsy, you can 'favourite' items from a shop and it kind of goes to a little mood board time thing on your Etsy homepage) on my shop and items, I'm guessing the first sale just takes time. Since my first Etsy post I've added lots of new items and I've started making lavender bags, which I'm selling as singles and sets, and a few little makeup bags. I've become a bit of a fabric and ribbon buying addict! I just can't stop myself!

The Etsy community is really, really lovely and much like the blogging community (without any of the bitchiness!) There are little forums on Etsy where you can chat to other sellers, promote items and get tips and pointers to improve sales. It's a really helpful place and it's really helped me to improve my shop SEO which is great! Also, I've found a lot of Etsy sellers have little blogs so it's a great place to find blogs that are a bit different from what I normally read.

One of the scary things about Esty is that everyone is already thinking about Christmas and putting up there Christmas stock...it's only September! It has given me a lot of inspiration for little Christmas themed items I can make though and I'm already really excited about getting started with that! I think my plan is to start making all my Christmas items this month and get them added to my shop next month. I'm also finding Pintrest a great place for inspiration and well as promoting some of my stock!
