Important Changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act

Here's a picture of my fluffy boy to cheer the post up!

I've been in two minds on whether or not to write this post. On one hand I felt that by doing this post I was doing my little bit to inform owners on something really important but, on the other hand, I wondered how many people would actually be interest in reading this. Anyway, I decided to go ahead with the post, and if people read it and leave with a little more knowledge on a very important subject for any dog owner then that is absolutely fantastic! This post is by no means meant to scare any dog owners at all, but is to inform them on upcoming changes to a piece of legislation that I feel ALL dog owners should be aware of, whether you own a teeny Chihuahua, Lab or Newfoundland. I sometimes feel like people aren't fully aware of this legislation and what it includes either because they feel like it isn't something that would ever apply to their dog or because they think it only applies to particular breeds. It is, however, something that applies to all breeds and all dog owners.

The changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act come in to place on the 13th May 2014 and applies to ALL breeds. On current legislation it is a criminal act to be in charge of a dog that is 'dangerously out of control' in a public place. Changes to the legislation will also include dogs that are 'dangerously out of control' on private property including within your house or garden. Please remember that a dog does not have to bite to be considered 'dangerously out of control' and the law can take effect if a person feels threatened by the dog or if they feel the behaviour of the dog could lead to such instances.

There are a couple of other changes too and the following links explain everything fully. Again, this post is not meant to scare anyone and I hope that any dog owners that read it find it useful!
