Review - Real Techniques Duo Fibre Collection

I am a huge fan of the Real Techniques brushes and not ashamed to say that I own a fair few from the collection. Their brushes are such good quality and really affordable too! They also have a fantastic range of brushes and many are multipurpose so you can find one for every job. When I first heard about the release of the limited edition Duo Fibre brushes I couldn't wait for the release date so I could get my hands of them. As soon as I saw the collection appear in Boots I snapped up a set without even thinking.

The Duo Fibre Collection contains three brushes including a Face Brush, Contour Brush and Eye Brush. The handle design is slightly different to that of other RT brushes, with the handles being white and the brush name colour coordinating with that handles of other brushes. I really like the white candles. They look a lot more sleek! After the initial couple of uses and washes of these brushes I was left slightly disappointed as they each shed a couple of times. It was only a couple of hairs per brush but these are the only RT brushes that have done this. I contacted the company who offered to replace them if I sent them back however the shedding stopped and has never happened since so I just put it down to a couple of initially loose hairs. I wouldn't let this put you off! They are currently retailing in Boots for £23.99 which is a great price for three brushes.

So, down to each brush...

Face Brush

The face brush is a really great size for applying powder and the arrangement of the bristles means that it applies the powder really lightly. I did start of using this brush for powder but since I already have a powder brush I found it a bit of a waste. I then tried using it for bronzer and it works perfectly! It's great for applying bronzer all over and applies it really lightly. It's also really great for contouring. The bristles hold powder really well but also blend really nicely so your not left with any harsh lines. The tapered shape also means that it fits in the hollows of the cheeks really well.

Contour Brush

Before using the Face Brush for contouring I was using this, however I found it a little small and it didn't blend out the bronzer too well so it left a bit of a harsh line. I now use it for highlighting and it works really well. Like the other brush it holds the powder really well and puts a light dusting to the top of the cheek bones so it's not over powering. I've also used it as a blush brush, which I liked, but I much prefer it as a highlighting brush.

Eye Brush

I was a little disappointed with the Eye Brush and it took me a while to figure out the best use for it. I first tried using it to apply eye shadow to the crease which it wasn't very good at. Overall it doesn't hold powder eye shadows very well. It seemed to just spread it all over the eyelid rather than keeping it to the crease. The shape of it also means it can feel a little bit scratchy and can become uncomfortable it used for too long. I then tried using it for blending out the edges which I didn't find it to good with either. I have now started using it to blend out cream eye shadows which I've found it perfect for! It blends them out really well, removes harsh lines and creates an even layer of shadow across the lid. If you have any other uses for this brush please let me know as I might just be using it wrong!

Have you tried this collection? What RT brushes do you have and what is your favourite brush brand?

Can you believe my blog is a whole year old this month?! I'm hosting a celebratory giveaway for the occasion, so if you haven't already entered, click on the button in my side bar and enter! I'm really trying to become more organised with my blog and making it the best it can possibly be. I've printed myself some blog planners and blog post planners, which I'm gonna put in a folder, and going to get a little note pad to kept with me and jot down all my ideas in. When I've finally got fully blogging organised I'll do a little post on how I've organised myself, what I've used ect. I hope you'll all enjoy that!

So this past week I've not been up to much. I've gone shopping a couple of times and been volunteering at the sanctuary. I've tried to get my makeup all organised but found I just don't have the space in my draws to store it all. I think I'm going to get my hands on some Muji storage and I'm hoping two sets of the two wide drawers will be enough! If you have any makeup storage posts please link them below because I'm really loving reading them at the mo! Anyway, that's really enough rambling about pretty much nothing for now, here's the pictures...

My OOTN for the #midsummermeet I recently went to. I wore an oversized tee along with a leather look skater skirt. I added a statement necklace to glam it up a bit.

Amazing goodie bag from #midsummermeet which was not expected. It had so many great brands in it including MaroccanOil, Redken, Nails Inc, Orly, L'oreal, Elizabeth Arden and lots more!

Bird having a nap in his cage and chilling out on the settee!

Cody having a sniff outside.

Trying to organise my makeup collection. I never realise how much I have until I see it all together like this. I know it's not as big as some but it's much more than I thought I had.

One of the goodies from the goodie bag, Nails Inc Gel Polish! I was so excited to see this in the bag and couldn't wait to try it. I've tried it once already and I will do a review on it very soon so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Review - Area H2O Shampoo and Conditioner

Wow, it seems like forever since I did a review! I hoping to get a few more makeup reviews up in the next couple of weeks as I don't feel like I do enough even though I have tonnes of makeup!

Anyway, when it comes to washing my hair I like my hair to feel super clean so I try to avoid any 'styling' shampoos and conditioners that add volume, shine, help curling, de-frizz ect and just use a simple shampoo (like Aussie Mega) that doesn't leave any residue. However, I never consider residue that might be left by the water, and I bet you don't too!

The water in your area may either be hard, medium or soft and each one has various effects on your hair. If you live in a hard water area you hair could appear slightly rough and tangle easily. Living in a soft water area could cause your hair to feel slippery, look lifeless not have that ultra clean feeling. The reason for this, whether it be hard, medium or soft water, is down to the mineral content of the water. Mineral content can cause shampoo to not lather properly, rinse off fully or leave residue on the hair.

Area H2O Shampoo and Conditioner

Area H20 Shampoo and Conditioner

Area H20 Shampoo and Conditioner
Area H2O Shampoo and Conditioner Duo £17.50*

Area H20 shampoo and conditioner* is a scientifically formulated hair care system and they have a different formula for each water type. They work by preventing the minerals present in the water from building up residue, so they simply just wash away (that's the simple version, anyway!) and this creates cleaner hair!

I live in a medium water area and have coloured hair, so was sent the Shampoo and Conditioner for Medium Water, Coloured Hair*. The packaging is really simple yet effective. I particularly like that it doesn't lean towards either sex, making it appealing to all. The scent is so, so lovely. It's really refreshing so great for a morning wake up. It isn't over powering as all, yet isn't so subtle that it's barely there! The shampoo foamed up really, really well. I always love it when shampoos do this because it makes me feel like I'm really cleaning my hair. I always do two shampoo cleanses because I use a lot of product and I did the same with this. The conditioner is lovely and thick. It went a really long way and really soaked in to my hair.

After the first two uses of the product I can honestly say I didn't see or feel much different. My hair felt slightly rougher when wet (which I was told is normal when first using it) and felt nothing different when dry. After the third time using the products I was amazed! My hair felt super, super soft! After drying it still felt amazing, looked shiny, was easy to brush and was much less frizzier. I've actually not stopped using the shampoo since because I love the effect it's having on my hair!

Area H20 offer shampoo and conditioners for hard, medium and soft water areas and also for fine and coloured hair, all priced at £9.95. They also do duo sets of each (one conditioner, one shampoo) priced at £17.50. They really are worth the money! I've been using the shampoo for three weeks, 2-3 times a week with a double cleanse each time and I'm not even a quarter of the way through the bottle!

Check them out here and you can also purchase them from here.

Look Fantastic & My Bag #midsummermeet

I hope you've all had a good start to the week and enjoyed your weekend!

Last Thursday I got the pleasure of going to the #midsummermeet which was put together by a lovely blogger called Hannah, Look Fantastic and My Bag. It was a lovely evening full of some very well know brands as well as a few I had never come across before. It's always nice to be introduced to new brands and get to find out a little bit more about the more well known ones.

The event took place in Walrus Cafe Bar in the Manchester Northern Quarter. I traveled on my own and had a little bit of trouble finding the location of the event. Thank God that smart phones now have Google Maps and GPS, haha! When I finally arrived I was welcomed by some lovely girls helping out at the event and shown to the private room of the Walrus Cafe Bar were the event was taking place. I was also given a free drink token which was a lovely start to the event.

The room was full of all loads of brands including Benefit, Burt's Bees, Nails Inc, MaroccanOil, Evo, L'oreal and Show just to name a few. We got the chance to look at each brand as we pleased and talk to the people who worked for the brand. They were all very lovely and gave out loads of info about their brand. Benefit were giving out free makeovers and Nails Inc were also doing nails, as well as showing off some of their new collections and the new gel nail polish line! Unfortunately I had come to the event with a full face of makeup so didn't have a Benefit makeover however I did get to try their upcoming blush Rockateur and can't wait to get my hands on it! L'oreal talked through their new steam straightener and MaroccanOil talked about their collection and were doing hair consultations. Their were also talks from some of the other brands attending the event which was lovely! It was also so lovely to catch up with some of the bloggers I had met at the North Meet Up and meet some new bloggers too.

Sorry about the not so great pictures! I decided to take my bridge camera rather than my SLR for ease of traveling but had completely forgot how to use it because it had been so long!

To end the event we were all given a goody bag which I didn't expect at all. It contained so many lovely brands and a few which I had never heard of so I'm looking forward to trying them out. I'm particually excited to try the Nails Inc Gel Polish, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Cream and MaroccanOil which were all included in the bag! Benefit also gave out a little goodie bag and mine contained one of their cream eyeshadows in the shade RSVP which is really pretty!

My outfit for the night including a leather look skirt and over sized tee (both featured in my last haul) teams with my denim jacket and vans for a casual look. I also wore a lovely gold statement necklace just to jazz it up a bit!

Were you at the #midsummermeet? What events have you been to recently?

Drugstore Cosmetics Wishlist

Beautysets - Drugstore Cosmetics Wishlist

I've bought so many things recently that I think it's time to slow down on the spending and make sure I have enough money for food when I go back to uni! Also, I should probably make sure I have enough money for anything I might need rather than stuff I just want! It's pretty hard though as there's still so many things I want. I feel a spending ban might be coming! I've put together a little list of stuff I am currently lusting over but unfortunately won't be getting my hands on for a little while yet...

Sleek Blush in Pomegranate - I pick up my first Sleek blush in Rose Gold yesterday and fell in love with the formula. It's so silky and pigmented that I can't wait to get my hands on other. I love shimmery blushes and the colour of this one is just lovely.

Bourjois Chocolate Bronzing Powder - I've heard so many bloggers raving about this product but never tried it myself. I've recently started getting in to bronzers and how to apply them so I would really love to try this one.

Barry M Confetti Polish - Barry M have brought out so many lovely effect polishes recently and I've yet to get my hands on any of them. I really love Barry M polishes but haven't purchased any for so long. I really must try this one!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation - I had the previous formula of this foundation and really loved wearing it when I was just nipping out for a couple of hours or going to a lecture. I've recently ran out of it and haven't yet tried the new formula so this is a must get soon!

Bourjois Shine Edition Lipsticks - Yup, another Bourjois product! When I saw these on the advert I was instantly drawn in by them. I wasn't too fussed about the Rouge Edition lipsticks so didn't bother trying them but these really drew me in. The formula seems lovely and the colours are really pretty too!

Maybelline Falsies Mascara - I used this mascara ages ago and then never repurchased it and have no idea why! All my mascaras are running low (at the same time, unlucky) so I think this will be a sooner rather than later purchase!

What drugstore products are you currently lusting over?

The Skincare Series - The Skincare Tag!

So today as part of The Skincare Series I thought I'd share with you this lovely little skincare tag I came across. I haven't done a tag for a while and thought this one would be a great little addition to my Skincare Series. I tag all of you to do the tag and please send me the links if you do!

Describe your skin care routine in 5 words.
Repetitive, Soothing, Calming, Hydrating and Moisturising

What's your skin type?
I have really sensitive skin due to suffering from eczema. I've been known to have reactions from products I've used regularly without any problems. I've woken up a few times with allergic rashes or a swollen face. I also have dry skin which is always worse in the winter and can also be brought on by my eczema. I also suffer from really bad redness under my cheek bones which I hate!
What's your favourite skin care product?
At the moment I really love my La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water. It's just got so many uses. I use it after cleansing, to set my makeup, refresh and hydrate my face during the day and sooth my face if it's particularly red or sore.

Top blemish zapper
I don't use anything! I'm lucky enough to not suffer badly from blemishes and if the odd one crops up it normally gone down fairly quickly.

Face wipes yay or nay?
Nope! I've used them in the past on holiday and festivals but I always find them a bit scratchy and they often make my eyes sting. After finding out more about them I much prefer to use a cleanser which I know is good for my skin.

High-end skin care or high-end make-up?
High end skincare. I'd rather pay more for skincare and have a good base to apply my makeup. Weather you use drug store or high end makeup it won't look flawless unless you have a good base to apply it to first. Saying that, there are some great drug store skincare gems out there!
What's the most unusual skin care product you've tried?
ooo I dunno. Some of the Lush facemasks can be pretty odd because they look and smell like food!

You're in a French pharmacy and can only pick up one item - what is it?
Hmmm possibly La Roche Posay Serozinc as I love the La Roche Posay Thermal Water so I will most likely love that too!

Tell us your top skin care tip.
Just to keep on top of the routine you choose for you as that is the best way to achieve good results. Oh, and to establish a routine with products that suit your skin type. I think it's also important to remember that some products take time for the results to be seem so don't give up on products after only using them a few times.
It's also really important to remember to drink loads of water (something I'm so, so bad at!) and incorporate plenty of fruit and veg in to your diet :)

I tag you all and please send me your links!

Haul - Topshop & Miss Selfridge

Sooo...I went shopping! It was actually a week or so ago. Plus the Topshop and Miss Selfridge items are from two separate trips. The Topshop items are from a shopping trip to the Trafford Centre. I actually went there with the intention of picking up a couple of bits from Forever 21 that I had seen on their website. Unfortunately they didn't have what I wanted and since I was paying cash rather then card I decided to look elsewhere instead of buying online. So that took me to Topshop. I only picked up one thing from their sale as the rails were rammed with people and since I'm claustrophobic I couldn't cope with it for two long. I then popped in to Miss Selfridge in Wigan whilst I was in town with the intention of not buying anything. They had just put all their sale items out so I decided to take a peak and managed to pick up a couple of bargains. So here's what I bought...

Lace cami from Topshop. I think this was £14 or £16 (I've lost the receipt!)

Sale item from Topshop. Demin Skater Skirt. This was reduced to £10

Simple speckled Tee from Topshop - This was £12. I'm really loving this style atm so if you know any stores selling similar, let me know!

Miss Selfridge

Miss Selfridge Leather Look Skater Skirt . This was a mega bargain reduced to £7!!

Miss Selfridge

Another amazing sale bargain from Miss Selfridge. Checked shirt reduced to £7 again!

Have you been shopping lately? Have you found again sale bargains around?

I haven't been up to much lately as I was given a tiny baby bird someone found in their garden and have been hand rearing him. It takes up so much of my time! When I first got him he only had a few pin feathers and required feeding every 30 minutes!! He's now feathered, flying and learning to eat by himself so he only needs feeding every hour or so, but can go longer. This means I can finally go out for a few hours and not just nip to starbucks for 30 minutes, woo!
Tilly pup carrying out her favourite activity, toy destroying!

Post toy destruction!

My everyday makeup to make me look alive.

Nachos and cocktails at my favourite Giraffe restaurant. The food is amazing and the staff are so lovely. I love places where the staff remember regular customers and make a point of speaking to them when they go in.

I love blogger mail!

Little birdy the day after I got him. Only a few pin feathers and he could barely lift his head for food. We think he was about 7 days old as he did have his eyes open.

Little birdy a week later! He chirps so much and is so active. He's learning to fly and will hopefully be eating for himself in a few days. He's now fully feathered too and has been taking little dips in his bath! I'm starting to look into release techniques and whether he might be best going to a sanctuary. We've built him an aviary too to help integrate him to the outside world.
What have you been up to this week?

The Skincare Series - My Morning Routine

I've decided to start a new series on my blog based around skincare and in particular my skincare routine, tips and tricks. I really hope you enjoy it! I'm starting it off by sharing with you my morning skincare routine.

My morning routine is all about waking my skin and preparing it for makeup application. I think it's really important to care for your skin and prepare it well for makeup application as this will allow you to have the most flawless makeup base possible. Skincare really is the best place to start if you want flawless looking makeup. I carry out this routine whether I'm going to be wearing makeup or not as I think that once you have established a routine that suites you it's really important to stick to it. My skin is dry, sensitive and I also suffer quite badly from redness around my cheeks so my routine is based a lot around that.
Skincare Routine - Avene La Roche Posay
Skincare Routine - Avene La Roche Posay

Skincare Routine - Avene La Roche Posay

Skincare Routine - Avene La Roche Posay
I start of by using my St. Ives Apricot Scrub for Sensitive Skin. To give a light exfoliation to my skin. This is my all time favourite scrub. It smells so lovely and refreshing so it's great for waking your skin up! It's really gentle, doing the job well but without feeling overly abrasive or scratchy. I wet my face prior to using it and massage it in to my skin for 2-3 minutes. I then remove it using a muslin cloth. I dry my skin with a small face towel which I change every few days.

Next I give a quick spritz with my La Roche Posay Thermal Water (I forgot to include this as I normally keep it in my bag!) just to neutralise the tap water. I allow this to air dry as it's only a quick spritz so dries off pretty quick. This is a really great product to use in the summer, sooo refreshing!

I then tone my skin with my Avene Gentle Toner which also contains thermal water, using a cotton wool pad. This just helps to tighten my pores and finish the cleansing process. It really gentle and great for sensitive skin. It also lasts such a long time! I've had it since the beginning of June and only just hit half way after using it morning and night!

I then go on to my eye cream. I've been using eye creams for a couple of years. A lot of people wonder what age they should start using them and I think as early as possible is the best answer as prevention is better than cure! If your trying to establish a good skincare routine be sure to add eye cream in to it. I use Botanics Hydrating Eye Cream which I'm really enjoying using. It doesn't irritate my eyes like some have and think it helps with puffiness and waking your eyes up.

Lastly I moisturize. I always trying to use a moisturizer with SPF to help protect my skin. I'm currently using Avene Redness Relief Moisturizing Protecting Cream SPF 20 which I really like. It is designed for dry and sensitive skin and provides my skin with just the right level of moisture that I need. It isn't greasey or heavy and soaks in really quickly providing a great makeup base. It is also green to help counteract by redness.

Do you have a similar morning routine?

My next post in 'The Skincare Series' will be my night time routine!
