I am a huge fan of the Real Techniques brushes and not ashamed to say that I own a fair few from the collection. Their brushes are such good quality and really affordable too! They also have a fantastic range of brushes and many are multipurpose so you can find one for every job. When I first heard about the release of the limited edition Duo Fibre brushes I couldn't wait for the release date so I could get my hands of them. As soon as I saw the collection appear in Boots I snapped up a set without even thinking.
The Duo Fibre Collection contains three brushes including a Face Brush, Contour Brush and Eye Brush. The handle design is slightly different to that of other RT brushes, with the handles being white and the brush name colour coordinating with that handles of other brushes. I really like the white candles. They look a lot more sleek! After the initial couple of uses and washes of these brushes I was left slightly disappointed as they each shed a couple of times. It was only a couple of hairs per brush but these are the only RT brushes that have done this. I contacted the company who offered to replace them if I sent them back however the shedding stopped and has never happened since so I just put it down to a couple of initially loose hairs. I wouldn't let this put you off! They are currently retailing in Boots for £23.99 which is a great price for three brushes.
So, down to each brush...
The face brush is a really great size for applying powder and the arrangement of the bristles means that it applies the powder really lightly. I did start of using this brush for powder but since I already have a powder brush I found it a bit of a waste. I then tried using it for bronzer and it works perfectly! It's great for applying bronzer all over and applies it really lightly. It's also really great for contouring. The bristles hold powder really well but also blend really nicely so your not left with any harsh lines. The tapered shape also means that it fits in the hollows of the cheeks really well.
Before using the Face Brush for contouring I was using this, however I found it a little small and it didn't blend out the bronzer too well so it left a bit of a harsh line. I now use it for highlighting and it works really well. Like the other brush it holds the powder really well and puts a light dusting to the top of the cheek bones so it's not over powering. I've also used it as a blush brush, which I liked, but I much prefer it as a highlighting brush.
I was a little disappointed with the Eye Brush and it took me a while to figure out the best use for it. I first tried using it to apply eye shadow to the crease which it wasn't very good at. Overall it doesn't hold powder eye shadows very well. It seemed to just spread it all over the eyelid rather than keeping it to the crease. The shape of it also means it can feel a little bit scratchy and can become uncomfortable it used for too long. I then tried using it for blending out the edges which I didn't find it to good with either. I have now started using it to blend out cream eye shadows which I've found it perfect for! It blends them out really well, removes harsh lines and creates an even layer of shadow across the lid. If you have any other uses for this brush please let me know as I might just be using it wrong!
