DIY Nail Polish Colour

Hello!

Over the past couple of weeks I've seen a few posts from other bloggers showing how to create your own nail polish colour. For those who haven't seen them it's basically using old and/or broken eye shadows colours and mixing them with clear nail varnishes to create your very own nail colour! It's pretty simple and easy to do, plus a great way of using old eye shadows so they don't go to waste.

Here's a quick step by step of what I did (Sorry, no pictures, I forgot!)...

Take your chosen eye shadow and empty it out onto some paper. I put the paper on top of a book so it has a solid surface underneath, using a desk or counter top will be fine though :)
Next, using something flat and hard (knife, bank card or end of a rolling pin) break up the eye shadow into a powder. It needs to be super fine so that it doesn't lump up when adding it to the nail polish.
Lastly, either make or use a funnel (I just rolled up some paper) to put the powdered eye shadow into the nail polish. I added a bit at a time so that it didn't end up going too thick. When it's all added put the brush lid back on and give it a good shake. It should then be ready to use! Isn't it easy?!

For mine I used some shadow from an old palette that I know longer used plus an old clear nail polish that I found at the back of the drawer. It's a great way to use up a couple of old products that would other wise be wasted!

There does appear to be a couple of lumps in my new polish which is probably from me not crushing the eye shadow fully, so really make sure you spend a while making sure it's really fine! I might leave the shadow in the airing cupboard or window ledge to dry it out a bit more before crushing it next time.

Other than that I was pretty please with it overall and will definitely be trying it out again in the future! Have you tried doing this with old products? Do you have any other tips and tricks to use up old products?
